The Priests are a global phenomenon that started in 2008 with the release of an
eponymously-titled album. The three tenors – brothers Father Martin O'Hagan and Eugene O'Hagan
along with Father David Delargy – had little inkling of what was about to happen to them. As it
transpired, plenty did happen to them - huge record sales, record-breaking triumphs and global
fame.
The trio of Irish priests are among the most recognized and successful acts in both the religious and secular worlds. Their debut album sold at such a pace it secured them a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest-selling classical recording debut ever. They fascinated global media, shared sofa space with TV hosts the world over, and graced the pages of all manner of publications including Time Magazine. They have sung to audiences that include the British royal family and the Irish president. They were nominated for Classical Brit Awards for Classical Album of the Year for three consecutive years and in September 2010, The Priests shared a stage with Pope Benedict XIV before a crowd of 80,000 people in London’s Hyde Park while millions more watched on television.
In 2011, they wanted to spend more time in their parishes. There was a sprinkling of concerts in Europe, and their Christmas With The Priests concerts in Ireland were a huge success. True to their calling, The Priests donate the proceeds from their albums to various charities. Toward the end of 2011, the Priests were approached by a screenwriter who asked if he could write the story of their musical lives for film. This film, Raising The Roof is currently in pre-production and is set for release in late 2014.
