The Mommy MD Guide to Losing Weight and Feeling Great was a fun book to read!
Mommy MD Guides was launched www.MommyMDGuides.com in 2009, and the first book in the Mommy MD Guides series, The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth, released in 2010. The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby’s First Year released in 2011. They published The Mommy MD Guide to the Toddler Years in 2012. They also sell The Mommy MD Guide to Pregnancy and Birth iPhone app on the iTunes Store, and they also createdDaddyMDGuides.com. WHEW! A lot going on there within the last few years!!! They've been busy!
The challenges of parenting motivate people to buy books, perhaps more than almost any other topic. Although there are other parenting books out there, The Mommy MD Guides book series offers many benefits that other parenting books lack:
- It’s coauthored by Rallie McAllister, MD, MPH—a physician and also a mom of three sons. Dr. McAllister is a nationally recognized health expert whose nationally syndicated newspaper column, Your Health, appeared for years in more than 30 newspapers in the United States and Canada and was read by more than a million people each week.
§ It’s filled with the advice of credentialed experts—more than 150 MDs and DOs, rather than the advice of a single author.
§ In addition to being credentialed experts, these women are also mothers—with hundreds of children and dozens of grandchildren among them.
§ The advice in the books is tips that these Mommy MD Guides use for their own families, not necessarily what they tell their patients. It’s a frightening reality that in no time in history has the gap between what doctorssay to their patients and what doctors do for their families been wider.
§ The tips in the books are proven to work. If a tip works for a doctor juggling a busy practice and a hectic home life, it’ll likely work for you too.
§ The books talk about enjoying the celebrations of parenting, not just surviving its challenges.
§ Instead of lists of dry, boring tips, the advice is presented as easy-to-read, often humorous, anecdotes and stories.
§ While most books shy away from mentioning specific brands, products, and stores, throughout our books we recommend specific brands, product, and stores that our Mommy MD Guides have found to be helpful in their own lives, in our Mommy MD Guide-Recommended Product sidebars. We believe this is tremendously beneficial to our readers, helping to simplify their lives.
§ The books’ tone is calming and reassuring; there’s no fear factor here.
§ These books are filled with useful information about common complaints and celebrations of parenting that most moms will face, not focusing on unusual symptoms and problems that only a few moms will encounter.
People can buy these books online on many sites including Walmart.com, MommyMDGuides.com, and Amazon.com, order them at bookstores nationwide, or download them for Kindle, Nook, or iPhone/iPad.
MY TAKE:
I really got a lot out of this book. It was honestly nice to know that doctor's have the same struggles I have. I know that sounds weird....but they know what you're supposed to do to lose weight...maintain weight...be healthy, etc. I also think I know...but then when you don't lose weight or even maintain weight you wonder WHY??? I thought I was doing what I was supposed to be doing. So it is nice to know that even doctors...whom we go to for advice, struggle with the same problems. The fact of the matter is, there is no ONE magic thing for everyone to do because everyone's bodies are SO different. All you can do is just keep trying different things until you find that one thing that works. And even after you find that one thing that works...it may not always work...so it is constantly a learning process for you and your body.
There were a lot of great insights in the book. Ideas, advice, thoughts, encouragement...enough to fill 300+ pages full on an e-book!! But it never got dull. There was always something that made me go..."Oooohhhhh...."
I would encourage anyone to read this book that may be struggling even in the slightest. Not only can it give you weight loss advice, but it gives you help in the feeling great area! It helps you come up with what works for YOUR body. Definitely a worthwhile read.
Thank you for this helpful review! Mary
