Jillian Michaels Review
It is not very often that I get to have a night out with my friends. So I was pretty excited when I got to go out with my friend of 13 years April! We had a great time! For dinner, we went to Lo Sole Mio, a great, authentic, family owned Italian Restaurant here in Omaha. The last time I'd been there was probably 11 years ago....and ironically...with April! :-) It is a little on the pricey side....so if I want Italian....it is usually the Spaghetti Factory! But...Lo Sole Mio is TOP of the line in Italian food! SO worth the money...I just don't usually HAVE the money! If you live in Omaha and haven't been there, I would really encourage you to give it a try!!
After the incredibly yummy...but probably fattening food I ate at Lo Sole Mio, it was time to go see Jillian! She would have probably cringed at my choice of dinner.....or maybe not. She believes in the 80/20 rule. If you eat healthy 80% of the time, let yourself off the hook 20% of the time! She claims that she absolutely needs a hamburger from time to time!

There were three parts to her "talk". First, telling us all about the things we put in our body...the chemicals, the fat, etc. She told us what to try to avoid....however, she is incredibly realistic. She knows we can't avoid everything and going totally organic on a small budget isn't always feasible. So she told us that even trying a little harder, is better than throwing in the towel all together. Spend a little extra time at the grocery store looking at labels. You only have to take an extra 20-30 minutes ONE time to browse labels, then next time you'll know what to buy. She suggested what might be better to eat as far as fruits and veggies go in organic as opposed to inorganic. For example, grapes, bananas, strawberries...they all have more of a soaking ability as their skin is thin and can allow pesticides to creep in a little better...those things might be better to buy organic. Things with thicker skin, you would probably be fine with as an inorganic. She was very informative. It is all stuff that you can find on her website though if you would like more information. Just look HERE.
Next, she talked about exercise. She reminded us that even a little bit of exercise is better than none. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park further away. Walk during your lunch break, etc. She reminded us that this is all stuff we KNOW already.....but sometimes we all just need reminders from time to time.
Finally she talked about what is going on inside of us mentally and spiritually. Is there something going on in our lives right now or in the past, that may be attributing to our weight gain, or lack of weight loss? In her case, it was verbal abuse. Maybe others have a hard marriage, maybe they are being abused in other ways, or have been abused. Is there something that we are holding onto that is causing us stress...or causing us to have some sort of eating disorder? Basically she lets us know that we can TAKE CONTROL OF OUR OWN LIVES!!
She was very empowering. I will say...if you are planning on going to see her, enjoy yourself. She is fun...she is funny....she is informative. However, if you are like me and have a harder time with foul language, be prepared, she cusses like a sailor. I wouldn't bring your children. She also is very open about her personal life and her choice of mate. I have no problem with her choice, I don't condone it, but I have no problem with it, I still love her like Jesus tells us to. However, if you are someone who would prefer to not hear about that, you may want to steer clear.
Otherwise she was a fabulous speaker! I really enjoyed hearing her and I really enjoyed her information. As she said, this is all stuff we've heard before or already know....it is implementing it. We need to have someone (her), kick us in the butt, and remind us of this stuff to get us into gear!
*Thanks to Omaha Performing Arts and Jillian Michaels for allowing me to come and review this show*
