Omaha Performing Arts presents Cherish the Ladies in the Kiewit Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets start at $25, and are available at TicketOmaha.com, 402.345.0606 or at the Ticket Omaha Office inside the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St.

Cherish the Ladies have grown from a one-time concert concept to the most successful and sought-after Irish-American group in Celtic music. Members of the ensemble are Joanie Madden (whistle, flute, vocals), Mary Coogan (guitar, mandolin, banjo), Mirella Murray (piano accordion), Liz Carroll (fiddle) and Kathleen Boyle (piano). Joining the ladies on stage will be the Irish singer and two-time Grammy® nominee, Maura O’Connell; two world champion step dancers, Michael Holland and Garrett Coleman; and Jason Oremus, the former principal lead dancer for Riverdance. With their unique blend of virtuosic instrumental talents, vocals, arrangements and step dancing, Cherish the Ladies combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture.

The group started as part of a concert series featuring the brightest lights in Irish traditional music. Taking their name from the name of a traditional Irish jig, Cherish the Ladies initially won recognition as the first and only all-women traditional Irish band. They soon established themselves as musicians and performers without peers. They have been named Best Musical Group of the Year by the BBC, Entertainment Group of the Year by the Irish Voice Newspaper, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall's International Group of the Year Award at the Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and voted the Top North American Celtic act by NPR Radio’s Thistle and Shamrock. The Ladies have recorded 10 albums.
2015 marks the 30th anniversary of Cherish the Ladies’ formation. Critics have described the group as an “astonishing array of virtuosity” (the Washington Post) and “expands the annals of Irish music in America…the music is passionate, tender and rambunctious.” (The New York Times).

Cherish the Ladies performs at the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St., March 11, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets start at $25, and are available at TicketOmaha.com, 402.345.0606 or at the Ticket Omaha Office inside the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St. Hospitality sponsor is Residence Inn Downtown.
