Grammy® winner Kurt Elling is among the world’s foremost jazz vocalists. He has won seven DownBeat Critics Poll in the last 10 years and has been named Male Singer of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association six times in that same span. Every one of Elling’s 10 albums has been nominated for a Grammy®; overall, he has received 12 nominations, winning the Best Jazz Vocal Album for Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman in 2009. His repertoire includes original compositions and modern interpretations of standards, all of which are springboards for inspired improvisation, scatting, spoken work and poetry.
JazzTimes called Elling “the most influential jazz vocalist of our time,” and with “Elling Swings Sinatra,” he pays homage to the most legendary male vocalist of the 20th century in celebration of Sinatra’s centenary. Elling lends his own voice to Sinatra’s repertoire with reinterpretations of classic hits such as “Come Fly With Me,” “In the Still of the Night” and “April in Paris.” These ever-familiar tunes are transformed by Elling’s vocal expertise and rich baritone that spans four octaves.
The 1200 Club transforms the Holland Performing Arts Center’s most intimate venue, the Suzanne and Walter Scott Recital Hall, into a relaxed nightclub setting where patrons can experience performances by nationally and internationally known artists in jazz, blues and comedy. While enjoying the evening’s entertainment, audience members may enjoy hors d’oeuvres and
cocktails served right to their candle-lit table. The next show at the 1200 Club is Rock Legends with Billy McGuigan on May 15.
