Hot Sardines in Omaha, February 17th

HOT SARDINES TO PERFORM FEBRUARY 17 AT 1200 CLUB INSIDE HOLLAND CENTER

Early-American Jazz Meets Wartime Paris In This Mardi Gras Concert

Omaha Performing Arts presents the Hot Sardines in the Scott Recital Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center for a performance on Mardi Gras, Tuesday, February 17, at 7:00 p.m. A very limited number of general admission tickets remain. Tickets are $35, and are available atTicketOmaha.com, 402.345.0606 or at the Ticket Omaha Office inside the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St. The Hot Sardines are part of the 2014/15 1200 Club Series.

The Hot Sardines consist of bandleader and stride piano virtuoso Evan “Bibs” Palazzo, frontwoman Miz Elizabeth, and a brass and rhythm section consisting of powerhouse musicians Jason Prover, Joe McDonough, Nick Myers, Alex Raderman, Evan “Sugar” Crane and “Fast Eddy” Francisco. The Sardine sound – wartime Paris via New Orleans – is straight-up, foot-stomping hot jazz (literally – the band includes tap dancer, Francisco). While their roots run deep into jazz from the 1920s-1940s, they’re intertwined with French influences via Elizabeth, who was born and raised in Paris (and writes songs in both languages).

Members of the Sardines collective have worked with a genre-hopping roster that includes Rufus Wainwright, Sufjan Stevens, Lauren Ambrose, Sondre Lerche, Vetiver, Of Montreal, Nicholas Payton, Kurt Elling, Branford Marsalis, the New York and Jerusalem Philharmonics, Slavic Soul Party and the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra. Their most recent album is a self-titled album released by Decca/Universal Music in October 2014.

The 1200 Club transforms the Holland Performing Arts Center’s most intimate venue, the Suzanne and Walter Scott Recital Hall, into a relaxed nightclub setting where patrons can experience performances by nationally and internationally known artists in jazz, blues and comedy. While enjoying the evening’s entertainment, audience members may enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails served right to their candle-lit table. The remaining performances at the 1200 CLUB are Randy Brecker on Feb. 27, Fredericks Brown on March 19, Black Violin on April 12, Kurt Elling’s “Elling Swings Sinatra” on April 23 and Rock Legends with Billy McGuigan on May 15.

Hot Sardines will perform at the 1200 Club at the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St., February 17, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $35, and are available at TicketOmaha.com, 402.345.0606 or at the Ticket Omaha Office inside the Holland Center. The 1200 Club Series is sponsored by Mutual of Omaha. This performance is sponsored by C&A Industries.
