Dear Daughter letter, Repost

I have reposted this from another Blog.  I apologize if you don't agree....but I will be printing this letter for my daughter to read.  It's only my opinion.

Dear daughter, let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you

26AUG

Mama must be so proud.
Dear daughter, let Miley Cyrus be a lesson to you.
Yes, this is what happens when you constantly hear everything you do is awesome. This is what happens when people fawn over your every Tweet and Instagram photo. This is what happens when no responsible adult has ever said the word “no,” made you change your clothes before leaving the house, or never spanked your butt for deliberate defiance.
If you ever even consider doing something like that, I promise you that I will run up and twerk so you will see how ridiculous twerking looks. I will duct tape your mouth shut so your tongue doesn’t hangout like an overheated hound dog. I will smack any male whom you decide to smash against his pelvis – after I first knock you on your butt for forgetting how a lady acts in public.
Why would I do that? Because I love you and I want you to respect yourself. Miley Cyrus is not edgy or cool or sexy. She’s a desperate girl screaming for attention: Notice me. Tell me I’m pretty. See how hot I am. I know all the guys want me. All the girls want to be me.
You probably know girls who will emulate this behavior at the next school dance. Don’t do it with them. You are far too valuable to sell yourself so cheaply. Walk away. Let the boys gawk and know in your heart that they see only a body that can be used for their pleasure and then forgotten.
I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt sad because I haven’t gushed over everything you’ve done. My role is to praise when praise is due, but also to offer constructive criticism and correction when it is needed as well. I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt demoralized because your Instagram following isn’t in the thousands, and I’m sorry those “selfies” can never capture how amazingly beautiful you truly are. I’m sorry if you’ve ever wished you had a friend instead of a mom, and I promise you that I will probably get worse when you hit high school.
Dear daughter, I am going to fight or die trying to keep you from becoming like the Miley Cyruses of the world.
You can thank me later.

MY RECENT EXPERIENCE:

Wow!  We had a really great time!  My kids were so excited when Brian (the Game Manager) drove up.  They could hardly contain themselves.  I was a little surprised with my kids because we have X-Box 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Game Boys, iPods, etc....I didn't think they would be so excited because they can play those things at our house....but for some reason, this was different.  They were thrilled beyond belief.  I have a 14 year old boy, 12 year old boy, 8 year old girl and 5 year old boy.  They were all super excited!

We had anywhere from 50-70 people here off and on throughout the night.  A really great turnout!  Not all of those were kids....of course the parents came, and everyone invited someone else...which is fine.  That is what I wanted.  The Game Truck itself was sparkling clean.  It smelled new.  In fact I asked Brian if it was new....he said it was just the smell of "clean".  I like to know that everything is clean given that my kids are like petri dishes...they pick up anything and everything and then get sick half the year. Anyway....he had all of the titles for each game console velcroed nicely to the wall.  There was one wall that was all rated M or rated T.  Those were the ones I decided to not allow due to the age variance of kids.  There was PLENTY of other games.  Even Guitar Hero was there!  He also had a Wii U that others used while waiting on their turn, and there was also the Rockem' Sockem' game digitalized.  Very cool!  I didn't get a chance to play, but I spoke to a couple adults who did...they said it was cool!

The Game Truck can hold up to 16 players playing at one time....but more than that can fit in there watching.  I know because there was one time when a lot of the parents were in there watching also.  There was also Skylanders in there.  That is really cool.  My kids have just about every game and every game console...but I had never seen this game.  It is very cool!  BUT....I don't think I would want to be the one responsible for keeping track of all of those figures....so I am glad that Game Truck had it, so they could play it on there!  :-)

Brian, the Game Manager, was very knowledgable in what he was doing.  He was also very patient with the mass chaos that ensues with that many kids and parents.  It actually looked like it could be a really fun job!  If you are in the Omaha area, I happen to know that the Game Truck is looking for more Game Managers!  Each party can be customized to your needs....birthday parties, corporate events, etc.  Whatever you need, they are happy to accommodate.

All in all, it is a great idea, and very reasonably priced.  With four kids, I have had my share of parties at locations for my kids....and in my opinion, for the value, Game Truck is the best!  They come to YOU....no clean up....priced right....kids love it!  You can't ask for anything more! :-)

Make sure you go to https://www.facebook.com/GameTruckOfOmaha and like their facebook page!  You can also check them out at http://www.gametruckparty.com/omaha.

If you book your party, make sure you tell them that Tonya from Nebraska Hockey Mom, sent you over!!

To sippy cup...or not to sippy cup???? That is the question....

I have a 14  year old, 12 year old, 8 year  old and 5 year old.  The past 3 kids gave up their sippy cups early because someone younger than them, usually needed them.  Major...my 5 year old...is a little different.  He has no one to follow him.  He is having trouble getting rid of the sippy cup, and I am not needing him to stop for someone else...which means I am not pushing it.  So...here is my question.  What do YOU think is the appropriate age to get rid of the sippy cups?  He HAS drank out of regular glasses, so I know he can...he just chooses not to.  What do YOU think????

The Kids are in School.....

I am slow.  Their first day of school was last Monday.  But....I am curious...how did each of you do????  Do tell!!!!  This is an e-mail I wrote to my family last Monday.  I thought I'd share it today.

After bawling last night at midnight after finishing their lunches....I got up at 6, made breakfast and send Jake off walking to Andersen Middle School at 7:15 with his friend Nicoli.....next was Cam.  I sent him off walking at 7:30 to his freshman year of high school at Millard South High School with his friends Maddie and Cannan.  I thought that would be hard.....but it wasn't bad.  It was weird....but not bad.  Next at 8am, I started walking with MaKenna and Major to Neihardt Elementary school for 3rd grade and Kindergarten.

Major was a chatter box all morning and super excited...until we got on school grounds.  Suddenly he clammed up.  This NEVER happens.  MaKenna did just fine of course.  However, for the first time EVER, we had a power struggle over what she would wear this morning.  Yes....there were even tears....from her.  I have NEVER had an issue with her and clothes.  For some reason this morning she tried 4 different outfits on and I had to redo her hair 3 times!  She also tried on several different shoes.  What has my daughter become?????

And they were off.  Major has the Spiderman backpack.  He never looked back.  I cried....a little since I had forgotten my sunglasses and I knew lots of people there...so I choked the tears back as much as I could....until I started walking home.  As soon as the crowd cleared and it was just me, myself and I walking home....I let it loose.....

I realized that this was the first time I had ever walked this road from Neihardt with no hand holding mine........it was a long walk home......*sniff sniff*.

Reading Eggs Offer

Have you ever heard of Reading Eggs?  A year or so ago, I did a blogger promotion with them and I really enjoyed it.  So did my kids.  At the time, my daughter was just starting to read and it helped her out quite a bit.  Now, I get to try it again and my son is just starting to learn to read.  I am super excited to see if it does as well for him as it did my daughter since all children's personalities and learning styles are different.

For those of you who HAVEN'T heard of Reading Eggs...let me tell you a little bit about it.  Here are a couple of testimonials from US Family Guide Bloggers:

"My daughter Emma has struggled in reading and in just a few days working with Reading Eggs she went up an entire level!"  Jennifer Billy

"My son is 4 and learned to read by age 3 using Reading Eggs. He now reads on a 3rd grade level!" Jennifer Hay

See for yourself how Reading Eggs will help your child!

Some facts to highlight for you.  The Reading Eggs program was developed by teachers, educational writers, animators and web developers.  It focuses on a curriculum that will help to keep their reading skills and it is great for children 3-12.  Reading Eggs launched their website in 2011 and in North America has seen over 500,000 subscribers and given 15 million lessons!  That is awesome!!!

Are you getting a little bit more interested??  Well, guess what?  MY READERS WILL RECEIVE A FREE TWO-WEEK TRIAL OFFER!!!!  You can register HERE.  There in no credit card required for the free two-week trial program.

This is an incredible offer.  You'll be able to see how quickly your child will learn to read using phonics and enjoying themselves!

More questions?  There are several Press Releases out there.  One of the more recent is 6/27/13 - Reading Eggs Publishes 5 Ways to Teach Children How to Read .

They also have a customer service office in New York, and you can reach out to them with any questions, clarifications, requests, etc.: 877-661-4898, support@readingeggs.com.

My kids learned a lot from it and they enjoyed it while learning!  Give it a try...see what you think!

The Monopoly Unleashed House Party, Review and GIVEAWAY!!!!

I was given the opportunity from House Parties to host my very own Monopoly Unleashed House Party!  I have never been a fan of Monopoly, but their new and improved Monopoly game is great!  I was sent a box of games and goodies to host my party with.  I got the new Monopoly, Monopoly Millionaire Deal Card Game, Candy Land and Connect Four.  We already had Candy Land too....but this is a new and improved Candy Land too.  I like it much better!  I was also sent coupons and tattoos and keychains to make the experience more fun!

We had a great time.  I invited quite a few friends, but the summer is a really hard time to get people together, so I only managed to have 3 friends here, but we had a total of 9 kids here with us!  So we ALL got to play!  It was a lot of fun!  We had games and food....what more can a person ask for?  I love any excuse to get together with my friends too!  Here is a picture of one of our yummy desserts that one of my guests brought!  Cake "ice cream" cones!
So we started with Connect 4.  I haven't played this game in a LONG time!  It was just as I remembered it.  We had the teenagers play against eachother this time!  Girls rule!  :-)
I think they enjoyed it!!  After all, it is a really fun game!
Then we took out the new and improved Candy Land.  The kids weren't quite as impressed with the new tokens.  Here is a picture of them....and then the only other issue I had was that the spinner came with out the innards.  I know it was just a packaging issue....but it is something to pay attention to.  If I could have taken it back, I obviously would have because we have to finagle things to use it.
I think the kids still had a good time though.  The things I DID like about the new and improved Candy Land was that there were no cards to keep track of.  I like the spinner idea MUCH better than the cards....if my spinner had all of its pieces anyway!  :-)

The Monopoly Millionaire Deal Card Game we never got around to playing.  We had a long night of game playing, so we just didn't get to this one....but we plan on trying it out as a family game tonight and see what happens!  I'll try to remember to update you!!  :-)  It looks like fun when I read the back of it!

Next was the new and improved Monopoly!  I have always hated this game.  Not because it wasn't fun and interesting...it is....but because it took SOOOOOOOOO long!  Now they not only have a new token....the kitty....but NOW they have a new dice for an Advanced Game...or faster game!!
We had a lot of fun playing it together last night.  What I really found great was how much my kids were getting involved in it.  I never realized it before because I never played it with them before, but it really teaches them how to budget their money!  I have one child who is VERY free with his money.  He started the game out the same way....until he almost went bankrupt.  Suddenly his thought process changed and he ALMOST won the game!  Now today even, when he was talking about going to the store to buy something he wanted, he had to rethink if he truly wanted it because he was thinking about the money part.  He NEVER would have done that before!  I was very impressed!

Now today even he and his little sister have been playing it!  And they've been playing the long version!  They do get tired and get up and go outside for awhile, but they come back and start at it again!  No tv...no video games.  I am shocked!  This is a good thing!!!

All in all last night we had a great time!  I didn't get a ton of pictures because I was playing and having a good time, and I kept forgetting to take them!  :-0  Oops!  But we really had a great time....and the weather was so nice that we sat outside on the porch and played!  Tons of fun!  And I thank Hasbro  and House Party for letting me host this fun party and play all of these great games!  We will be playing more tonight!

Now...to the giveaway!!!!  Everyone loves a good giveaway right???  I have SEVERAL prizes....they are little so don't get your hopes up for huge prizes....but I have several.  They are Monopoly Tattoos, Monopoly Keychains and Monopoly $3 off coupons to go buy your own Monopoly game!  Who's in??
