NATIONWIDE CHALLENGE ASKS 8 to 17-YEAR-OLDS TO IMAGINE WORLD-CHANGING TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE

LOS ANGELES (March 26, 2015) Inspired by the upcoming Disney movie “Tomorrowland,” The Walt Disney Studios, Disney Citizenship, and XPRIZE announce a nationwide challenge for young innovators.

Beginning April 22, 2015, Disney’s Create Tomorrowland – XPRIZE Challenge invites kids to imagine themselves in the future and report back to the present through video, imagery or stories about one new and amazing invention or innovation they encounter, how it works, and the impact it has on the future.

In June, six winners will have a once–in-a-lifetime mentorship experience with a leader in their area of interest. In addition, each winner will receive a $3,000 check, a 3D Printer from 3D Systems, and registration for FIRST® LEGO® League for the competition season 2015-2016 in the U.S.

“‘Tomorrowland’ has always been a place of possibility in our parks and for the creative team behind our new film,” said Sean Bailey, President, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. “The future will be steered by the imaginations of our young people, and Disney is thrilled to work with XPRIZE to encourage and inspire the next generation of thinkers and dreamers to build the future they imagine is possible.”

“We are excited to launch the Create Tomorrowland XPRIZE Challenge, which gives young people a platform to voice and depict their creative, bold and imaginative problem-solving inventions of the future,” said Trish Halamandaris, Senior Vice President Marketing & Communications at XPRIZE. “At XPRIZE we believe that solutions to the problems facing humanity can come from anyone, anywhere and one of these young innovators just might come up with an idea that can truly turn Tomorrowland into reality.”

Participants will compete in two divisions: Junior Division (8-12 years old), and Senior Division (13–17 years old). All entrants must have prior consent from their parent or legal guardian in order to participate in the challenge. Official Rules and details about the Challenge are available athttp://XPRIZEchallenge.org/CreateTomorrowland. Official registration and submission period starts April 22, 2015, and runs through May 17, 2015.

Submissions will be judged on innovation, creativity and presentation. XPRIZE will provide a panel of judges who will evaluate and score all submissions, and six (6) winners will be chosen.
Supporting XPRIZE Partners include FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), 3D Systems and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

U.S. Release Date:                      June 19, 2015
Voice Cast:                                    Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaitlyn Dias

Co-Director:                                  Ronnie del Carmen
Producer:                                       Jonas Rivera

From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Notes:
·       Director Pete Docter is the Academy Award®-winning director of “Up.” He made his directorial debut with Disney•Pixar‘s smash hit “Monsters, Inc.,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for best animated feature film. Along with John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton, Docter developed the story and characters for “Toy Story,” Pixar‘s first full-length feature film, for which he also served as supervising animator. He served as a storyboard artist on “A Bug’s Life” and wrote the initial story treatment for “Toy Story 2.” As one of Pixar Animation Studios’ key creative contributors, Docter garnered an Academy Award nomination for his original story credit on Disney•Pixar’s Golden Globe®- and Oscar®-winning “WALL•E.”
·       Jonas Rivera produced the Academy Award®-winning “Up,” for which he was nominated for best picture. Prior to “Up,” he had worked on nearly every Pixar film since joining Pixar Animation Studios in 1994, beginning with “Toy Story” for which he served as production office assistant. His subsequent credits include “A Bug’s Life” (as art department coordinator), “Toy Story 2” (as a marketing and creative resources coordinator), “Monsters, Inc.” (as art department manager) and the Golden Globe®-winning “Cars” (as production manager).

The Search for Life Beyond Earth with Kevin Hand

Here is a little bit about Dr. Mireya Mahor:

A scientist, explorer, wildlife correspondent, anthropologist, author, and inspirational speaker,
Dr. Mireya Mayor, a Ph.D. in anthropology, has reported on wildlife and habitat issues to
worldwide audiences for more than a decade.

A former NFL cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins, she was the first female wildlife
correspondent for the “Ultimate Explorer” series on National Geographic Television, and has
spent more than fifteen years exploring some of the wildest and most remote places on earth,
often armed with little more than a backpack, notebooks and hiking boots. Since then, Mireya
has slept in remote jungles teeming with poisonous snakes, gone diving with great white sharks,
been charged by gorillas and chased by elephants—and that’s just in the last few months.

In 2005, Mireya received two Emmy Award nominations for her work on the television series
Ultimate Explorer. Mireya was later named an ”Emerging Explorer” in 2007 by the National
Geographic Society which selects rising talents, “the next generation of visionaries” who push the boundaries of adventure and global problem solving, inspiring people to care about the
planet.

Mireya is a Fulbright scholar, National Science Foundation Fellow and published author with a
Ph.D. in anthropology from Stony Brook University. She authored her memoir, Pink Boots and
a Machete, and has written articles for National Geographic’s kids magazines Explorer and
Extreme Explorer, and is working closely with National Geographic’s School Publishing on
videos and textbooks for classrooms nationwide.

Mireya has made numerous appearances on The Today Show, MSNBC, CNN, and Despierta
America, and has been profiled in People, Marie Claire, Latina, National Geographic Adventure,
Vanidades and Elle magazines. Mireya divides her time between research in the rainforests of
Madagascar, lecturing at schools and universities and traveling the world as a wildlife
correspondent. Mireya’s talks are inspiring for all ages but she is an especially powerful
presenter for student audiences.

When not deep in the jungle or on assignment, Mireya lives in Connecticut and is the mother of
five young children. They share their home with an ever-growing menagerie of wonderful
creatures.

This isn’t Dr. Mireya Mayor’s first time in Omaha. She has worked at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium’s conservation genetics lab processing lemur samples from Madagascar. Her zoo connection may have been the inspiration behind the name of one of the three new mouse lemurs her team discovered in Madagascar: Microcebus simmonsi (Simmons' Mouse Lemur), named for Dr. Lee Simmons, who was director of the zoo at the time of the discovery.

The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and – armed with a pumpkin and a few mice – changes Cinderella’s life forever.

ONE-LINER:

A live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale, “Cinderella” brings to life the timeless images from Disney’s 1950 animated masterpiece as fully-realized characters in a visually dazzling spectacle for a whole new generation.

Performance Includes The Penn & Teller Don’t-Try-This-At Home Piece, ‘[esc]’

Omaha Performing Arts presents the Pilobolus Dance Theatre in the Slosburg Hall at the Orpheum Theater Thursday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20, and are available at TicketOmaha.com, 402.345.0606 or at the Ticket Omaha Office inside the Holland Center, 1200 Douglas St.
Pilobolus is a modern dance company known for its mystifying contortion and exaggerated interaction between human bodies. By combining the strength and agility of shape shifting, as well as various explorations of human movement, they have created their own unique style of showing the human body. “It’s as if we're being given a fleeting glimpse of the inner workings of the universe,” stated The New York Times.

One of the highlights of the evening will be “[esc],” the result of a collaboration with masters of trickery, Penn & Teller. “[esc]” is the ultimate piece of gripping, do-not-try-this-at-home choreography featuring Houdini-inspired escapism. According to Teller, “We've never encountered a group of people so game to try anything, and so physically formidable and beautiful that they can do impossible stuff and make it look like art.” The performance will contain other repertory pieces such as “Day Two” and “Automation.” Please note: The program contains partial nudity.

Pilobolus was founded in 1971, by a group of Dartmouth College students, whose aim was to break down barriers within the discipline and challenge the way dance is thought about. The dance company has created over 115 pieces of repertory along with providing the community with dance education and consultations through master classes, workshops and creative collaborations for advertising, music videos etc.

Based in Washington Depot, Conn., Pilobolus has performed in more than 64 countries and has been featured on popular programs such as Sesame Street, Oprah, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, 60 Minutes and the Academy Awards® in 2007. Pilobolus has also won numerous awards
