Chris Raabes New Phenomenon Book Review

My name is Chris Raabe, the author of THE PHENOMENON TRILOGY. Book One, THE NEW PHENOMENON was released October 2011. Book two, ON THE RUN will be released January 15, 2013. You can look for book three in the spring/summer of 2013.  I have had a number of poems and essays published by Fine Lines, a non-profit writing publication, which I also help edit when I have the time.
Not only am I an author, but I also teach middle school in Omaha, Nebraska.  Along with teaching, I coach softball in the fall at a local high school and for a summer youth softball organization, so my year consists of a lot of days on the ball fields around the Omaha area.
I enjoy the outdoors with my family, and in the spring you might find me working in the garden with one of my daughters.  I can’t pass up the opportunity to do a little grilling in the backyard or drown a couple worms in a small lake, hoping to hook my next lunker.
I spent my youth in the Omaha area before moving to Red Oak, Iowa for high school.  That is probably why I selected Red Oak as the setting for my first book.  I enjoyed my time there before moving on to college at Peru State, where I played baseball and wrote for the Peru State Times newspaper.  My years in Red Oak with Mr. Button and Mr. Gilbert as my mentors helped shape me as a writer.  I enjoy putting pen to paper to scratch out an idea before tackling the keyboard to create the next poem, essay, or book.  As my Fine Lines leader, Dave Martin, would say, “Write On!”

About the book!
Every teenager wants to fit in, and Christian Pearson is no different. He is a phenomenon on the athletic field and in the classroom, but a terrifying accident on a fishing trip with his grandfather changes Christian's life forever. As he enters his freshman year of high school, Christian hides a secret that he plans to take to his grave. When the Pearson family moved from the city to the sleepy town of Red Oak, Iowa, before his freshman year of high school, Christian hoped for a smooth transition to small town life. Being the new kid in school has been a blessing and a curse. Most of the boys in Christian's class view him as a threat, so Christian struggles to fit it, but as an outcast, his secret is safe. When three freshmen, all from the same family, start school a week late, Christian senses something different about these new students. He reaches out to "The Three" seeking some semblance of friendship in his new hometown. When "The Three" confront Christian about the secret he hides, Christian is faced with a huge problem. Will this secret cost Christian his friends, his family, his freedom, and even his life?

My Sons Take:

It's awesome.... read it or suffer an eternal pain of not reading The New Phenomenon... Have a nice day.- Cam

He's 13......enough said.  :-)  Anyway...I have not yet got to read it.  Cam gave it to me to read, but with the bible studies I am involved in, etc...I have not had the opportunity to yet...but I have never read a book that Cam has told me to read that I HAVEN'T liked.  We have the same taste in I am confident that I will enjoy it.  If nothing more, you should buy it for your teen or tween and then read it also!!  As a bonus, Mr. Raabe was one of my son's teachers in 7th grade.  He was a favorite of Cam's!  Great guy!

The Radical Question and A Radical Idea Book Review

Earlier this fall, I got the opportunity to review a David Platt book called The Radical Question, A Radical Idea.  Two books in one!  Can't get better than that!  David Platt is the best-selling author of the book Radical.

What is Jesus worth to you?

Do you believe that Jesus is worth abandoning everything for?"

In Radical, David Platt invites you to encounter what Jesus actually said about being his disciple, and then obey what you have heard. He challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated a God-centered gospel to fit our human-centered preferences. With passionate storytelling and convicting biblical analysis, Platt calls into question a host of comfortable notions that are common among Christ's followers today. Then he proposes a radical response: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with promise, and ultimately world changing.
My Take:
This was a very fast reading book, but there is a lot of meat in between those pages!!  It is a very convicting book!  One I needed to read, and one I think we all need to read.  This book shows us that the church isn't built on locations, elaborate shows, professionals, etc...but on its people.  Platt relays to us that those people in the seats at the church are the ones that are meant to be active in spreading Gods Word, because when normal, every day people get involved in normal, every day ministry, those communities and the church families will change dramatically and positively.  David Platt says, "The goal of the church is never for one person to be equipped and empowered to lead as many people as possible to Christ.  The goal is always for all of God's people to be equipped and empowered to lead as many people as possible to Christ."

I really found this book to be convicting.  Since going on missions trips the last few years, I had already been convicted....but this was the icing on the cake.  Why DO we make multi-million dollar churches in the states when that much money could make hundreds if not thousands of churches in other countries  who are in need of Christ.  I am a bit torn though...because in our culture fancy is what attracts others.  So, if we have a shabby church, how many unbelievers will step foot in it.  However, how can we spend so much money on a simple building?  It is really tough for me to take in.  Platt just really makes us take ownership of our money and how we are spending it.  This book also helps us to look at more than just the financial realm of things.  How about us?  Are we just going to church....because we want to learn...that is GREAT....but is that it?  Or are we not only going to church to learn, but also to help teach lead others to church and to God???  That is THE MOST important thing for us to do as followers of Christ.  We are commissioned to lead others to Him and spread the Gospel.

I would HIGHLY suggest this book to anyone who is ready to make a change in how they do things within and outside of the church.  This is a great book especially for leaders of the church.   Check it out at

Help keep your whole family healthy for the holidays with our patented Dial Complete formula.

For more information about Dial soap visit and like them on Facebook at

I have to say, this is perfect for the season.  I love the little bottles.  I have had a couple people mention them in my guest bathroom and they wondered where I found them.  The nice thing is they are also refillable, so you can refill them and reuse the container which makes this product "green" too!!

As for the Dial Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash Formula, I have to say, I was skeptical.  I use another leading brand....but I must say, I was pleasantly surprised.  I really like it.  First of all, the pump works great.  It pumps out fabulously and what pumps out is a nice, pretty colored, silky foaming soap. It smells great, looks great and feels great.  It suds up well when you wash under the water and leaves your hands feeling nice and smooth afterward.  I really like it, I think I will have to switch brands!

"Dial provided a free sample of their Holiday Foaming Hand Soap for this post.  My participation is voluntary and my opinions, as always, are my own."
