One Call Away book review by Brenda Warner

I had the extraordinary opportunity to review One Call Away by Brenda Warner.  I was blessed to read Kurt and Brenda's book they co-wrote First Things First a couple years ago, so when I found out she had one out too, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.  My kids all just rolled their eyes because there goes mom again on her football tangent.  I LOVE football and they tell me I am obsessed with it....but that is not entirely true.  The Warners story is truly an amazing or not.  Spiritually there is a lot of meat in this book that can be applied to lives facing issues....regardless of the kind of issues.

What you will find on the dust jacket:

Brenda Warner is best known as the outspoken wife of NFL superstar and Dancing with the Stars alum Kurt Warner.  But years earlier, she found herself living through any woman's nightmare: a healthy baby tragically injured in the bathtub; a sudden end to a career she loved; betrayal and divorce; poverty; public humiliation; a deadly natural disaster that destroyed her foundation and shook her to her core.  One shattering phone call at a time, Brenda Warner's life came to resemble little of her dream.

But each time her plans fell apart, Brenda faced a choice; to collapse in the face of tragedy or press forward and survive.  She chose to keep going.  In the process, she's learned that the unexpected is only one call away.  Her story provides hope and encouragement for anyone facing life's challenges and shows us that our circumstances don't tell us who we are, nor are they a measure of God's love.  God has a plan for us, even when our plans fail.  Brenda's life is proof that sometimes the best dreams are not the ones we dream, but the ones that come true when we least expect them.

First of all, I need to put a plug in for their wonderful foundation called First Things First Foundation.  If you have a chance, check out their website.  They do a ton of good for those who can't do things on their own.

Secondly, wow...I knew the Warner's lives were full, busy and chaotic...just like everyone else's...but when you look at celebrities, you don't tend to think that they have any of those things.  They always seem to have it together.  This book reminded me that EVERYONE has issues...even those who fake it really well for the spotlight.  Football players who miss the winning kick, or basketball players who miss the winning basket....maybe they were up all night with a sick baby, maybe they got a terrible call that morning that someone was sick, or worse, had died.  You just never know.  I have always hated it when people are so critical of celebrities, but now, even more so.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone.  Not just women either.  I think anyone can take a lot from this book.  Being from Phoenix I really wanted to read about the Warner's since he was one of my favorite players, but this book did so much more for me than just tell me about the Warner's.  It reminded me of life and how everyone struggles and how we all make mistakes...and how with God...everything can be made right again.  I had a very difficult time putting this book down, and I am willing to bet, that you will too.

Kylie Minogue's CD The Abbey Road Sessions Review and Release Date!

(New York, NY - Sept. 6, 2012)  Pop Icon Kylie Minogue continues K25 celebration with the release of The Abbey Road Sessions in the U.S. on November 6th!  This album features 16 classic Kylie tracks, all re-imagined and re-arranged, many with a full orchestra.  It includes previously unreleased track "Flower" and a brand new Nick Cave vocal on classic duet!

This album was recorded in London's legendary Abbey Road Studios with Kylie's band as well as a full orchestra.  The album features many of Kylie's best known hits spanning her 25 year career, including "I Should Be So Lucky", Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and "Locomotion".  Others include "Confide In Me", "On A Night Like This", and "All The Lovers".  Nick Cave also re-recorded his vocal on the famous 1996 duet "Where The Wild Roses Grow" especially for the album.

Kylie is a breast cancer survivor and donates her time to the American Cancer Society, as we all am FAR to AIDS research.  Her latest single "Flower" is a song she wrote several years ago following her battle with breast cancer, to the child that she wishes she might one day still have.

Throughout 2012, Kylie has been celebrating K25, her 25th Anniversary in music.  It has been an extraordinary career so far, 60 million global album sales, multiple hit singles, spectacular global tours, amazing collaborations, countless accolades, acting roles and regular TV appearances.  All of which has permanently cemented her place in music history as a bona-fide superstar.

Last month the pop superstar celebrated her 6th consecutive #1 single on Billboard's Hot Club Play Chart with the song, "Timebomb", bringing her career total to nine.  As part of K25, the single was released in May as a special digital EP with a suite of remixes.  The video has racked up nearly 11 million views to date.

TV Appearances:
  • Kylie will appear on Dancing With The Stars on November 13th and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on November 14th to perform “The Locomotion.”  Be sure to STAY TUNED!!!!

I felt that the orchestral arrangement was BEAUTIFUL.  They did a really nice job doing that and reworking some of the songs.  I was not familiar with Kylie Minogue's work prior to reviewing this cd. So there really wasn't a song that I knew, but I can say that my whole family LOVED the song Confide In Me.  In fact, my 4 year old said "AGAIN, AGAIN", every time it was played!

Honestly, this is not the type of music I tend to listen to on a regular basis.  Though I DO love it, I would probably only listen to it while trying to wind down, in the tub, or trying to relax elsewhere.  Kylie has a very beautiful, smooth voice which made it very easy to listen to.

I would encourage you to purchase the CD and see for yourself.  I don't think you will be disappointed.

I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I received a free copy of the CD to facilitate my review. By posting, I am eligible for incentives. All opinions stated are my own.

Chris Mann "Roads" CD Review

Chris Mann
(born May 5, 1982) is a classically trained American singer-songwriter fromWichita, Kansas. He came in fourth place on the second series of NBC's singing competition The Voice in 2012. He came in first place on Team Christina Aguilera and represented her in the final round. He currently resides in inLos AngelesCalifornia.

His new CD Roads has a huge assortment of songs like Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind" and Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now".  He also includes great classical songs such as "Ave Maria" and "The Blowers Daughter" by Damien Rice.  "The Blowers Daughter even has an appearance from Christina Aguilera!!!  Mann also co-wrote two songs on the CD, "Coure" and "Falling".  "Coure" is based on Bach's "Air on a G String".  Very beautifully written.

Mann was honored to be on "The Voice" and picked for Christina Aguileras team!  He made it to the final rounds on Christina's team.

The following is quoted from Chris Mann's website,

After the series ended, Mann signed with Faircraft—serendipitous in that back in 1998 Fair, then senior vice-president of A&R for RCA Records, had signed, oversaw and supervised  Aguilera’s career. The decision was a no-brainer for both Mann and Fair. “Ron is a believer,” says Chris. “He has a passion for classical crossover music—he gets it.” Together, they immediately began conceptualizing of the album project—or projects, including a Wal-mart exclusive Christmas EP.

Always on My Mind
On a Night Like This

Viva La Vida

My Take:I wasn't really sure what to think of Chris Mann at first.  I very rarely get to watch any episodes of "The Voice", so I had never heard him sing.  I don't USUALLY listen to classical music, unless I am trying to relax enough to fall asleep...but I do love classical just is so relaxing that it ends up putting me to sleep.

As I sat here at my computer though and listened to his CD, I have to say, I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to him.  His voice is soft and soothing.  I loved that there were songs  on his CD that I was familiar with and sung in his nice, smooth voice.

I also played the CD for my husband who typically does not like classical music.  He also really enjoyed it.

I would give this CD as well as Chris Mann two thumbs up!  I am looking forward to putting his music on my iPod and listening more sleep....and even not to sleep!  :-)

*I was given the download of this CD in exchange for my honest opinion of the CD.*
